Hans-Agne Jakobsson floor lamps
This rare pair of floor lamps, model G-50, was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by his company Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1950s. Each lamp features a cylindrical brass stem that rises from a conical, flared brass base, creating a balanced and elegant geometric form. The central element includes a cylindrical opaline glass diffuser, which is surrounded by an original pleated textile shade in a warm beige tone. The shades remain well preserved, with uniform pleating and only minimal signs of discoloration.
The opaline glass diffuser is designed to softly diffuse the light source, reducing glare and creating an even, gentle illumination. The pleated textile shade contributes additional warmth and texture to the emitted light, enhancing the ambient atmosphere and characteristic softness for which Jakobsson’s designs are known.
Hans-Agne Jakobsson was a prominent Swedish lighting designer whose career spanned the mid-20th century. Trained both as a carpenter and an architect, Jakobsson’s work is distinguished by a combination of straightforward geometric forms and sophisticated light diffusion techniques. His company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, became a key producer of residential and commercial lighting in Scandinavia during the postwar period, recognized for crafting fixtures that prioritize atmosphere and visual comfort.
The lamps are in good vintage condition, showing natural patina on the brass surfaces and minor wear consistent with their age. Both the original electrical components and textile shades have been preserved. Each lamp measures 43 centimeters in diameter and 158 centimeters in height (16.9 inches Ø x 62.2 inches H).
