Information

This Danish modern cigar box is designed by Jens Quistgaard for Kronjyden of Denmark, a hallmark of mid-century Scandinavian design known for its functional elegance and high craftsmanship. The box consists of two main components: a ceramic base and a rosewood lid crafted by Richard Nissen, combining natural materials with clean, thoughtful design.

The ceramic base is cylindrical with a slightly tapered shape, featuring a steel blue glaze that creates a smooth matte finish on the exterior. The surface is decorated with the word “CIGAR” in raised letters, repeated in rows that wrap around the entire piece, adding a graphic texture that enhances the visual interest while maintaining a minimalist aesthetic. The interior of the ceramic base is finished with a glossy white glaze, offering a subtle contrast and easy maintenance.

The lid, made of rosewood, presents a warm, rich tone and visible grain patterns that contrast beautifully with the cool ceramic base. The lid is carved with concentric circular recesses in the center, adding a tactile detail and a comfortable grip. This combination of materials and textures reflects the Danish modern ethos, blending utility with artistry.

Measuring 16 cm in length, 10.5 cm in width, and 7.5 cm in height, the box is compact yet practical for storing cigars or other small items. The base bears the signature mark “Danmark – Kronjyden”. The piece is in excellent condition, with no visible damage or wear, preserving both its aesthetic and functional qualities.
