Aksel Kjersgaard mirror
This rare and large mirror was designed and produced by Aksel Kjersgaard in Odder, Denmark, during the 1960s. The mirror features a frame in richly grained rosewood with a brushed aluminium inlay running along the inside edge, adding a refined contrast and an elegant, linear detail. The combination of the warm, natural wood grain with the cool, matte metal creates a balanced composition characteristic of Danish modern design, where materiality and proportion were central concerns.
The rectangular format and large size make it a striking piece, suitable for use as a full-length mirror in a hallway, bedroom, or dressing area. The craftsmanship is precise, with sharp mitred corners and a slim profile that gives the mirror a light and architectural presence on the wall. The surface shows only minor traces of use, consistent with age, and the rosewood has developed a deep patina, enhancing the natural beauty of the wood.
Aksel Kjersgaard was a respected Danish cabinetmaker, known for producing finely crafted furniture and mirrors that often featured subtle yet sophisticated design elements. His work, marked with the Danish Furnituremakers’ Control stamp, reflects the quality standards associated with mid-century Danish woodworking traditions.
The mirror measures 84.5 cm in width, 2 cm in depth, and 125.5 cm in height, corresponding to approximately 33.3 x 0.8 x 49.4 inches. Its size and minimalistic yet luxurious design make it an impressive example of Scandinavian mid-century craftsmanship.
