Alf Svensson ceiling lamps
This rare ceiling lamp, model T7, was designed by Alf Svensson and produced by Bergboms in Sweden during the 1950s. The lamp features three conical metal shades in cream, deep blue, and red, each suspended by cords from a central ceiling mount. A distinctive detail of the shades is a pattern of small perforations near their tops, which allows light to gently filter through, creating a decorative effect.
The shades are hung at varying heights, resulting in a dynamic, asymmetrical composition. The structural framework consists of a minimalist metal support painted in a neutral tone, designed to evenly distribute the weight of the pendants while preserving a visually light and balanced appearance.
Alf Svensson was a noted Swedish designer recognized for his contributions to mid-century Scandinavian lighting and furniture. His designs frequently featured simple geometric forms, combining functional elegance with meticulous craftsmanship. Bergboms was an influential Swedish lighting manufacturer known for its innovative modern lighting designs during the mid-20th century.
The lamp is preserved in well-maintained vintage condition. The lacquered surfaces show some age-appropriate patina and wear, adding character without detracting from the overall appearance. When illuminated, the perforated shades cast a soft, ambient glow, enhancing the interplay of light and shadow.
Measuring 40 cm in diameter and 107 cm in height (15.7 by 42.1 inches), the lamp is a striking example of mid-century Scandinavian lighting design that balances form and function.
