Anders Pehrson ceiling lamp
Ceiling lamp model “Crystal” designed by Anders Pehrson and produced by Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, Sweden, during the 1970s.
The lamp combines a large transparent glass shade with a finely perforated brass reflector, creating a particularly refined interplay between transparency, reflection and filtered light. The clear glass shade has a broad bell-shaped profile with a distinctive flared neck, leaving the internal construction completely visible and giving the lamp an unusually light, almost architectural presence.
At the centre, a cylindrical brass fitting passes through the glass and supports the domed reflector below. Small brass fasteners positioned around the upper section secure the glass while becoming deliberate decorative details in their own right. The restrained construction is characteristic of Anders Pehrson’s work, in which technical components frequently form an integral part of the visual expression.
The perforated brass reflector is one of the lamp’s defining features. Hundreds of small openings cover both its domed upper surface and underside, allowing points of light to pass through while shielding the bulb from direct view. When illuminated, the perforations create a subtle constellation of light across the polished brass and reflections within the surrounding glass.
Suspended from a long white cable with brass fittings and a matching brass ceiling canopy, the lamp has an elegant vertical proportion. The combination of transparent glass and warm brass gives the fixture a strong presence without appearing visually heavy.
Designed by Anders Pehrson, one of the central figures associated with Ateljé Lyktan during the postwar period, the Crystal reflects the sophisticated lighting experimentation of Swedish design in the 1970s. Its combination of decorative materiality and carefully controlled illumination makes it particularly effective both switched on and off.
The lamp remains in good vintage condition with small signs of age and use consistent with its period.
