Information

This rare pair of floor lamps from the “Knubbling” series was designed by Anders Pehrson and produced by Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, Sweden, during the 1960s. Exemplifying mid-century Scandinavian lighting design, these lamps are noted for their functional elegance and warm material palette.

The lamps feature a cylindrical shaft and round base crafted in polished brass, providing a warm, reflective surface characteristic of Scandinavian metallic accents of the period. The domed lampshades are made of thick white acrylic with a slightly inset top edge trimmed in brass. The shades diffuse light softly both downward and laterally. Beneath each shade, a structured acrylic diffuser with concentric circular grooves ensures even light distribution, reducing glare while adding a subtle visual rhythm to the illumination.

Measuring 56 cm in diameter (approximately 22.05 inches) with a total height of 133 cm (approximately 52.36 inches), the proportions strike a balance between a wide shade and a slender central stem, creating a grounded yet elegant silhouette.

Anders Pehrson (1912–1982) was a pivotal figure in Swedish industrial design and served as artistic director at Ateljé Lyktan starting in 1964. He played a significant role in shaping the company’s international design profile, blending industrial production methods with a warm, humanistic design approach. Founded in 1934, Ateljé Lyktan is renowned for combining modernist principles with traditional craftsmanship, making notable contributions to Sweden’s design heritage.

These lamps are in excellent vintage condition, exhibiting light wear consistent with age and use. The brass retains a rich patina, and the acrylic shades show minimal yellowing or surface marks.
