Anders Pehrson floor lamps
This is a pair of “Bumling” floor lamps designed by Anders Pehrson and manufactured by Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, Sweden, during the 1960s. These lamps are executed entirely in polished brass and represent a key example of Scandinavian modern lighting design with strong functionalist and industrial influences.
The form is defined by a wide, cylindrical shade with a softly curved lip, which distributes light evenly downward and outward. The shade is mounted on a slender, vertical brass stem rising from a heavy, rounded base, ensuring stability and balance. The surfaces throughout display a warm golden hue with characteristic aging and patination of the brass, consistent with mid-century vintage condition. Both lamps retain their original push-button switch on the upper stem section and their white-painted inner reflectors, optimizing diffused light output.
The Bumling model was introduced by Pehrson in 1968 and quickly became an iconic product of Ateljé Lyktan. Anders Pehrson, who served as the artistic director of the company from the 1960s to the early 1970s, was instrumental in shifting the firm toward bold, contemporary forms that integrated technical innovation with mass appeal. The Bumling series was emblematic of this vision and was produced in various formats, including ceiling, table, and floor versions, in a range of finishes.
Ateljé Lyktan, founded in 1934, is one of Sweden’s most respected lighting manufacturers. During the postwar period, it became a central figure in modernist lighting design, often collaborating with prominent Swedish designers to produce technically sophisticated and aesthetically distinct luminaires.
The lamps are in good vintage condition, with visible surface wear and oxidation typical of brass items of this age. They are structurally intact and fully functional.
Each lamp measures 40 cm in diameter (15.7 inches) and 132.5 cm in height (52.2 inches).
