Arne Jacobsen coffee table
This rare coffee table was designed by Arne Jacobsen and produced by Fritz Hansen in Denmark during the 1960s. The table exemplifies Jacobsen’s approach to functional minimalism, characterized by a synthesis of geometric clarity and refined materials.
The circular tabletop is executed in beautifully grained rosewood, displaying warm reddish-brown tones with darker streaks and a lustrous finish that highlights the natural structure of the veneer. The surface is thin and precisely crafted, emphasizing the lightness and proportion typical of Jacobsen’s designs. The top rests on a three-point aluminum base, its sculptural cast form balancing stability with elegance. The metallic surface has a soft matte sheen, contrasting harmoniously with the organic texture of the wood.
This model shares the formal vocabulary found in Jacobsen’s work for Fritz Hansen and Illums Bolighus, combining industrial precision with a distinctly Scandinavian sensitivity to material and proportion. The underside bears a label from Illums Bolighus, Copenhagen, which distributed Jacobsen’s furniture to a design-conscious international clientele during the postwar modernist period.
The table is in good vintage condition, completely restored, with light traces of age that enhance its character.
