Arne Jacobsen coffee table
This coffee table was designed by Arne Jacobsen in the 1960s and produced by Fritz Hansen, one of Denmark’s leading manufacturers of modern furniture. Jacobsen was an architect and designer whose work epitomized Scandinavian modernism, and he is particularly known for his holistic design approach that extended from architecture to interiors and furniture. The collaboration with Fritz Hansen was central to his career, producing many of his most enduring designs.
The table combines a circular rosewood top with a brushed aluminum base. The rosewood veneer displays deep reddish-brown hues with darker grain patterns, giving the surface a rich and lively character. The circular shape enhances the organic quality of the material, while its thin profile contributes to the table’s light and refined appearance. The base is executed in cast aluminum with a three-point star shape, providing both stability and an elegant industrial contrast to the warmth of the wood.
The construction reflects the Scandinavian modernist emphasis on functional simplicity, material honesty, and timeless elegance. Jacobsen’s design balances the organic natural surface with the engineered precision of the base, a synthesis of nature and modern technology that was central to mid-century aesthetics. The table has been carefully restored and is in good vintage condition, with minor signs of use consistent with age.
This model belongs to the period when Jacobsen was also producing his celebrated designs such as the Egg and Swan chairs, making it part of his broader exploration of modern form and functionality. Produced by Fritz Hansen, the table carries the manufacturer’s mark, ensuring authenticity and craftsmanship.
