Information

This rare cabinet, model 1011, designed by Axel Larsson and produced by AB Svenska Möbelfabrikerna Bodafors in Sweden in 1935, is a distinguished example of early Scandinavian functionalism. Crafted from flamed birch, the piece showcases the wood’s distinctive grain pattern, which imparts a striking visual texture and warm golden tones to the cabinet’s surface. This choice of material is emblematic of Scandinavian woodworking traditions and highlights the natural beauty of the wood.

The cabinet’s design emphasizes clean lines and practicality, hallmarks of the functionalist movement, while maintaining refined craftsmanship. The facade is symmetrically composed, with a lower section of three large doors that open to reveal adjustable shelving for versatile storage. Above, a drop-down compartment is paired with a vertical column of four drawers featuring round wooden knobs, combining both aesthetic balance and functional accessibility.

The meticulous joinery and precisely fitted components demonstrate the high standards of Swedish furniture manufacturing in the early 20th century. The cabinet retains a good vintage condition, with signs of use that contribute to its authenticity and historical character.

Measuring 141 cm in width (55.5 inches), 42 cm in depth (16.5 inches), and 125 cm in height (49.2 inches), this cabinet is a remarkable representation of Scandinavian design heritage from the 1930s.
