Bengt Edenfalk candlesticks

This pair of glass candlesticks or vases was designed by Bengt Edenfalk and produced by Skruf Glasbruk in Sweden during the 1960s. They exemplify Scandinavian mid-century modern glass design, characterized by minimalist form, functionalism, and an emphasis on the purity of materials.

The objects are crafted from amber-colored glass, displaying a warm translucent tone that intensifies toward the base and neck. The design features a conical base that smoothly widens toward the bottom, supporting a narrow cylindrical holder at the top. When inverted, the pieces function equally well as pedestal bowls or small vases, demonstrating the designer’s intention for versatility and compositional balance.

Both items are in excellent condition, free from visible cracks, chips, or structural flaws. Original paper labels from Skruf and Edenfalk remain affixed, confirming their authenticity and production provenance.

Bengt Edenfalk (1924–2016) was a prominent Swedish glass designer known for his modernist approach and technical expertise. Beginning his career at Reijmyre Glasbruk, Edenfalk gained significant recognition during his tenure as artistic director at Skruf Glasbruk from the mid-1950s. His work is distinguished by a refined simplicity combined with sophisticated craftsmanship, often utilizing subtle manipulations of form and controlled color application.

Skruf Glasbruk, established in 1897 in Småland, Sweden, earned a reputation for high-quality hand-blown glassware. The factory collaborated with leading Swedish designers throughout the 20th century, with Edenfalk’s leadership marking a particularly innovative era. Skruf’s production encompassed both utilitarian and decorative glass objects, maintaining a Scandinavian tradition of harmonizing function and aesthetic appeal.

Each piece measures 12 cm in diameter and 8 cm in height, approximately 4.72 by 3.15 inches.
