Bengt Edenfalk candlesticks
This set of three glass candlesticks was designed by Bengt Edenfalk and produced by Skrufs Glasbruk in Sweden during the 1960s. Each candlestick features a conical base that tapers into a slender stem, culminating in a slightly flared cup-shaped holder designed to accommodate a candle. The glass exhibits a smooth gradient, transitioning from a deep green hue at the top to clear toward the base, enhancing the elegant and organic form.
The candlesticks are hand-blown, reflecting Skrufs Glasbruk’s commitment to artisanal craftsmanship, which results in subtle individual variations among the pieces. Notably, one candlestick has an uneven bottom. The set is in good vintage condition overall, with wear consistent with its age.
Bengt Edenfalk (1924–2016) was a prominent Swedish glass designer recognized for his innovative approach to both form and function. His tenure at Skrufs Glasbruk from the 1950s to the 1970s produced designs marked by a balance between technical precision and organic shapes. His work often embraces minimalist aesthetics with delicate color transitions, aligning closely with Scandinavian modernist principles.
Skrufs Glasbruk, founded in 1897, earned a reputation for high-quality glass objects distinguished by clean lines and skilled craftsmanship. During the mid-20th century, designers like Edenfalk helped establish the company as a key player in Swedish glass design.
The candlestick set includes three pieces with slight variations in height, measuring between 25 and 26.5 centimeters tall, each with a base diameter of 7.5 centimeters (approximately 9.8 to 10.4 inches in height with a 2.95-inch base diameter).
