Bent Karlby wall lamps

Very rare wall lamps designed by Bent Karlby and produced by Lyfa in Denmark during the 1950s. The model reflects Karlby’s refined and sculptural approach to lighting design, where functional clarity is combined with elegant material contrasts and subtle detailing.

Each lamp is constructed with a solid brass wall mount and articulated arm, supporting a voluminous opaline glass shade. The wall plate has a softly contoured outline with visible screws, characteristic of the period, and carries a warm, natural brass patina developed over time. The arm is formed from slender brass rods with gentle curves, creating a light and almost floating appearance while ensuring structural stability. A small supporting strut beneath the arm adds both strength and a refined technical detail.

The shade is executed in white opaline glass with a rounded, almost pumpkin-shaped body and a narrower neck. The glass diffuses the light evenly, producing a soft and warm glow that enhances the sculptural silhouette when illuminated. The contrast between the matte opaline surface and the aged brass creates a balanced composition typical of Danish mid-century lighting. The lamps are fitted with twisted brown fabric cords, adding to the authentic period character.

Bent Karlby was known for his ability to combine decorative presence with practical lighting solutions, and this model clearly demonstrates that balance. The design works equally well as bedside lighting, in a hallway, or as accent lighting in a living space.

Each lamp measures 19 cm in depth, 23 cm in width, and 30 cm in height (7.5 x 9.1 x 11.8 inches).

The lamps remain in good vintage condition with small signs of usage consistent with age. The brass shows light patina and minor wear, and the glass shades are intact with no visible cracks. The overall impression is well-preserved and fully functional.
