Bent Karlby (1912–1998)
Bent Karlby is today considered one of Denmark's most productive and versatile lighting designers during the 20th century. He began his collaboration with LYFA in the 1940s, a collaboration that would last for almost four decades. Bent Karlby is known for his soft light and organic shapes. Towards the end of his career, he also designed several luminaires with clear geometry and simple functionality.

Unlike many of his contemporary designers, Bent Karlby never employed staff in his studio. He wanted things done his way and was known for his uncompromising work ethic.
