Information

This rare pair of stools was designed by Bernt Petersen and produced by Wørts Møbelsnedkeri in Denmark during the 1950s. The stools have a refined and minimalistic aesthetic, characteristic of Scandinavian modern design. The frame is constructed from solid rosewood, featuring a warm brown tone with visible grain patterns. The legs taper elegantly and terminate in a distinctive sculpted foot detail, reflecting the precision and craftsmanship typical of Danish cabinetmaking. Model is designed for Kunsthåndværkets Prisopgave 1957 and presented at The Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition at Designmuseum Danmark, 1958.

The seat is composed of finely woven cane, offering a light and structured surface that conforms slightly under weight. The natural cane weave contrasts with the deep hues of the rosewood frame, emphasizing the material interplay. The stools retain their original loose cushions, which are upholstered in black leather, providing additional comfort and flexibility in usage. The cushions rest on the cane surface without being permanently affixed, allowing them to be removed for a more open and airy look.

The condition of the stools is well-preserved, with minor signs of wear consistent with age and use. The woven cane is intact, and the leather cushions show a natural patina that enhances their authenticity. Bernt Petersen was known for his subtle and functional designs, often incorporating traditional craftsmanship techniques with modernist principles. Wørts Møbelsnedkeri was a respected Danish workshop specializing in high-quality furniture, collaborating with some of the most renowned designers of the era.

Each stool measures 45 cm in width, 45 cm in depth, and 41 cm in height (17.7 x 17.7 x 16.1 inches), with a seat height ranging from 40 to 43 cm depending use of cushion (15.7 to 16.9 inches).
