Information

This rare pair of Eva easy chairs was designed by Bruno Mathsson and produced by Karl Mathsson in Värnamo, Sweden, in 1968. The chairs embody core principles of Scandinavian modernism, emphasizing ergonomic design, expert craftsmanship, and the use of natural materials.

The frames are made from laminated birch, a material favored by Mathsson for its flexibility and strength. The design features gracefully curved armrests and legs, reflecting Mathsson’s dedication to organic forms and functional seating solutions. The original leather webbing on the seats and backrests is woven in a grid pattern, providing comfortable support while keeping the chairs visually light.

Bruno Mathsson was a renowned Swedish designer and architect, known for pioneering furniture ergonomics. His work focused on creating seating that follows the natural contours of the human body, resulting in some of Scandinavia’s most iconic chairs. Karl Mathsson, Bruno’s father and a skilled cabinetmaker, was instrumental in producing these designs with meticulous craftsmanship.

These chairs remain in original condition, showing a well-developed patina on the leather webbing, with natural variations in tone and texture consistent with age and use. The birch frames exhibit signs of wear, particularly along edges and joints, but maintain their structural soundness.

Each chair measures 60 cm in width, 70 cm in depth, and 84 cm in height, with a seat height of 38 cm (23.6 by 27.6 by 33.1 inches, seat height 15 inches), representing a refined example of mid-century Scandinavian ergonomic design.
