Cabinets
This rare pair of wall-mounted cabinets, produced in Denmark in the 1940s, is designed in the manner of Mogens Koch. Constructed from Oregon pine, the cabinets display a warm natural tone with a distinct linear grain pattern. Their rectilinear structure and precise joinery exemplify Scandinavian modernism’s emphasis on functionality and refined craftsmanship.
One cabinet features eight drawers, while the other contains six, each fitted with small round wooden knobs. The drawers are framed with subtle edge details, maintaining a clean, minimal aesthetic throughout. Designed for wall mounting, these units contribute to a sense of lightness and flexibility within an interior.
Mogens Koch was known for his modular and systematic approach to furniture, favoring natural woods and simple geometric forms. His work balanced traditional craftsmanship with modernist ideals, focusing on utility and proportion. While these cabinets are not directly attributed to Koch, they embody his design philosophy and reflect the mid-century Danish tradition of furniture making.
Oregon pine, used in their construction, is a durable wood with a fine and even texture. Over time, the wood has developed a rich patina, enhancing the depth of color and grain detail. The cabinets are well preserved, showing minor wear consistent with their age.
Each cabinet measures approximately 50 cm wide, 37 cm deep, and 50 cm high (19.7 x 14.6 x 19.7 inches).
