Mogens Koch bookcase
This large set of bookcases was designed by Mogens Koch and produced by Rud Rasmussen in Denmark. Originally created in 1933, the design is a prime example of Danish mid-century modern functionalism, emphasizing modularity, craftsmanship, and the use of high-quality materials.
Constructed from Oregon pine, the bookcases feature a warm, natural tone with a distinct grain pattern that enhances their organic aesthetic. The system includes modular open shelving units for display purposes and enclosed cabinet sections for concealed storage. The cabinets are characterized by framed panel doors, a hallmark of Koch’s furniture design. Some cabinets include glass-paneled doors, balancing openness with protection for displayed objects.
Mogens Koch was a Danish architect and designer celebrated for his methodical and timeless furniture designs. His bookcase system is a classic modular solution, allowing flexible configurations tailored to diverse spatial and storage needs.
Each open shelving unit measures 76 cm wide, 27.5 cm deep, and 76 cm high (29.9 x 10.8 x 29.9 inches). The cabinet units have a slightly deeper profile at 36 cm (14.2 inches) to accommodate enclosed storage. The entire set is in good vintage condition, showing minor wear consistent with careful use and age.
