Carl Fagerlund table lamps

These rare table lamps, model RD1903, were designed by Carl Fagerlund and produced by Orrefors in Sweden during the 1960s. They exemplify the refined synthesis of brass and crystal glass that characterized Orrefors’ lighting designs of the mid-20th century, combining precision craftsmanship with a modernist sculptural presence.

Each lamp is constructed from a series of thick, circular glass discs stacked around a central brass core. The transparent glass elements are meticulously cut and polished, creating a rhythmic, optical effect that captures and refracts ambient light. The structural brass components, visible through the glass, introduce a warm metallic tone that contrasts with the clear crystal surfaces. The lamps are mounted on solid brass bases, engraved with the Orrefors mark and model number RD1903, and retain the original manufacturer’s label.

Carl Fagerlund was one of Orrefors’ most prominent designers, active from the 1940s through the 1970s. His work often explored the interaction between glass and light, using crystal’s refractive properties to achieve both functional illumination and decorative brilliance. For Orrefors, he developed numerous lighting series for domestic and public interiors, many of which were commissioned for Swedish embassies and institutional buildings during the postwar period. The RD1903 model reflects his mature design language—structural clarity, balance, and material sophistication.

The pair is in excellent vintage condition with minimal signs of use. The brass elements have a consistent patina, and the glass surfaces are clear and free from notable scratches or chips. The lamps are sold without shades.
