Carl Fagerlund

Carl Gustaf Vilhelm Fagerlund, born 25 November 1915 in Kalmar, died 2011 in Orrefors, was a lighting architect and designer at Orrefors glassworks.

After schooling in his hometown of Kalmar, Fagerlund graduated as a drawing teacher at the Higher School of Industrial Art in Stockholm in 1943. He then worked as a drawing teacher at Solbacka läroverk from 1943 to 1944. He was employed as a lighting architect at ASEA in Stockholm in 1944 and took up a similar position at Orrefors glassworks in 1946.

In addition to a wide range of ceiling and table luminaires designed for domestic use, Fagerlund carried out work in the following public buildings, among others: Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde, Frederiksberg Town Hall, Hotel D’Angleterre and Hotel Mercur in Copenhagen, Kiruna Old Town Hall, the Swedish Embassy in Tokyo, Möllevångens Church in Malmö, General Motors headquarters in the USA and Gävle Crematorium. Fagerlund also had exhibitions in London, Paris, Berlin, Milan, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Lund and Kalmar.

Carl Fagerlund was a member of the Swedish Freemasonry Order and received a silver medal at the 11th Triennial in Milan in 1957.

Carl Fagerlund's parents were county assessor Carl Fagerlund (1878-1959) and his wife from his first marriage Ellen Harberg (1879-1966). Carl Fagerlund was the grandson of the governor of Kalmar County Adolph Fagerlund. He was first married in 1944 to Ingrid Collenberg with whom he had two children, he was secondly married in 1961 to Anna-Lisa Dahl.
