Carl-Johan Boman dressing table
This very rare dressing table and side table set, model Grace, was designed by Carl-Johan Boman and produced by his eponymous company in Finland during the 1940s. The set exemplifies the high-quality craftsmanship and elegant organic forms characteristic of Scandinavian mid-century design.
Constructed from richly grained wood—likely rosewood or walnut—the pieces display a deep brown tone with a polished finish that accentuates the natural beauty of the wood. The design features gracefully curved edges and tapered legs, lending a light and refined presence to the furniture.
The dressing table is distinguished by its three-panel mirror with softly rounded corners: the central mirror is fixed, while the two side mirrors are hinged for adjustable viewing angles. Beneath the tabletop are two concealed storage compartments, each with a hinged wooden lid lined in deep teal fabric, providing both function and a striking interior contrast. The matching side table continues the design language with a gently contoured top and slender tapered legs.
Carl-Johan Boman was a Finnish designer celebrated for producing handcrafted, limited-edition furniture that combines refined elegance with functional design. His company, Boman, has been known since the late 19th century for exceptional materials and meticulous craftsmanship.
The dressing table measures 109 cm wide, 52 cm deep, and 136 cm high, with a tabletop height of 66.5 cm (42.9 x 20.5 x 53.5 inches, table height 26.2 inches). The side table measures 46 cm wide, 32.5 cm deep, and 56 cm high (18.1 x 12.8 x 22 inches). Both pieces are in well-preserved vintage condition, showing minor wear consistent with age and a beautiful patina that enhances the wood’s natural character.
