Ceiling lamp

This rare ceiling lamp or flush mount was produced in Denmark during the mid-20th century and exemplifies the pared-down functionalist aesthetics of Scandinavian lighting design. The construction utilizes a combination of solid brass and opaline glass, materials favored for their durability, luminous quality, and ability to age attractively.

The lamp is circular in form and designed to sit directly against the ceiling surface. The body consists of a wide perforated brass band with a natural aged finish. The perforations are evenly spaced in a geometric pattern, allowing secondary light diffusion around the perimeter when illuminated. The brass exhibits a lightly patinated surface, retaining subtle variations in tone and texture that testify to its vintage authenticity.

The central diffuser is made of white opaline glass, shaped in a convex dome to evenly distribute light across the space. The glass is secured within the brass frame by discreet metal screws, and the fixture achieves a seamless blend of industrial logic and visual warmth. The fixture produces a soft, diffused glow through the opaline dome while projecting a delicate pattern of light outward through the pierced brass sides.

The lamp’s minimalist construction and indirect lighting quality make it well-suited for hallways, stairwells, and understated residential interiors. While the designer is unidentified, its detailing and execution suggest Danish production practices from the 1950s or 1960s, when ceiling-mounted luminaires were increasingly sought after for their low profile and ambient effect.

The piece is in excellent vintage condition, with minimal signs of wear and full functional integrity. The brass retains its original finish with minor oxidation, and the glass is free of cracks or chips.
