David Rosén table mirror

This is a rare adjustable table mirror designed by Swedish designer David Rosén and produced by Nordiska Kompaniet (NK) in Sweden during the 1950s. The mirror is a refined example of Scandinavian mid-century design, integrating high-quality materials with an elegant industrial aesthetic and functional versatility.

The mirror face is a softly rounded rectangular form, held in a delicate brass frame with fine craftsmanship. The frame is secured to an articulated brass support arm at the rear, allowing tilt adjustment for optimal viewing angles. The rear of the mirror is finished in painted white wood, offering a clean contrast to the warm brass and enhancing the structural clarity of the piece.

The central support column is constructed from brass and wrapped in a tightly wound leather grip. This adds a tactile and textural counterpoint to the metallic elements. The column includes a mechanical locking mechanism, allowing the mirror height to be adjusted between 58 cm and 66 cm (22.8 to 26 inches), making it adaptable to different table heights or user preferences.

The base is a circular brass disc with a low profile, providing stability and weight while maintaining a discreet presence. The overall patina of the brass is warm and uniform, with subtle surface wear consistent with age and gentle use. The mirror glass is clean and clear, free of silvering loss or scratches, and the leather shows attractive aging without flaking or damage.

David Rosén was a key figure in mid-century Swedish design, known for his refined sense of proportion and material detail. As a designer for Nordiska Kompaniet, one of Sweden’s premier luxury manufacturers, Rosén’s work bridged neoclassical traditions with emerging modernist trends.

The dimensions of the piece are 36.5 cm wide, 18 cm deep, and adjustable in height from 58 to 66 cm, equivalent to approximately 14.4 inches wide, 7.1 inches deep, and 22.8 to 26 inches in height. The mirror is in excellent vintage condition and remains fully functional.
