Fröseke AB dressing table

This dressing table, or lady’s desk, was produced in Sweden during the 1950s by Fröseke AB. Constructed from solid ash, the piece features a rectangular tabletop topped with a black glass surface. A circular tilting mirror framed in matching ash is supported by two vertical staves, allowing adjustable viewing angles. The design is anchored by vertical turned posts at each corner, which end in rounded finials and are reinforced with horizontal stretchers for stability.

The desk includes two symmetrical drawer units, one on each side, each comprising three drawers with small spherical wooden knobs that echo the overall refined design language. The clean lines and balanced composition are characteristic of Scandinavian mid-century design, emphasizing natural materials and practical functionality.

The ash wood displays a warm tone and visible grain pattern, contributing to the naturalistic aesthetic typical of Swedish modernism. While the designer is unknown, production by Fröseke AB situates the piece within the rich woodworking tradition of Sweden’s Småland region, noted for its combination of craftsmanship and modern design during the post-war period.

The desk remains in very good condition, showing minor age-related wear. The black glass top is intact, and the mirror is free from significant blemishes. All drawers function smoothly.

Dimensions measure 99 cm in width, 53.5 cm in depth, and 121.5 cm in height to the top of the mirror, with the tabletop height at 69 cm. These correspond to approximately 39 inches wide, 21 inches deep, 47.8 inches high to the mirror, and 27.2 inches high to the tabletop.
