Dressing table
A very rare dressing table produced in Denmark during the 1930s, executed in a refined Art Deco style with a strong emphasis on curvature, material contrast, and decorative detailing. Although the designer remains unidentified, the piece reflects a high level of cabinetmaking typical of Scandinavian interpretations of Art Deco, where restrained elegance is combined with functional sophistication.
The structure is crafted in richly toned mahogany, displaying a deep reddish-brown hue with a lively grain pattern that is enhanced by a smooth, polished finish. The overall form is defined by a distinctive concave front, creating a soft architectural presence while allowing the piece to wrap subtly around the user. This curvature is echoed in the gently shaped drawer fronts, which are carefully integrated into the façade.
The dressing table features a central arrangement of drawers on either side, each fitted with sculptural brass handles. These handles combine flat, curved plates with cylindrical pulls, adding both visual weight and tactile contrast against the warmth of the wood. The drawers are finely constructed and proportioned, contributing to the balanced symmetry of the design.
Above the top sits a three-part adjustable mirror system, consisting of a central arched mirror flanked by two narrower pivoting side mirrors. The mirrors are mounted on slender brass supports with visible hinges and fittings, allowing for flexible positioning. The reverse sides reveal the same attention to material quality, with the brass hardware providing a subtle industrial counterpoint to the otherwise warm palette.
The interior back panel beneath the tabletop is upholstered in a patterned silk fabric, featuring a diamond lattice motif with small floral elements. This textile introduces a decorative softness and a sense of luxury, contrasting with the structured geometry of the wooden frame and reinforcing the Art Deco character of the piece.
The dressing table remains in good vintage condition with visible signs of age and use. The mahogany surfaces show a developed patina with minor wear, while the brass elements have aged naturally, adding depth and authenticity. The silk fabric displays some marks consistent with time, yet retains its overall visual appeal and integrity.
