Information

These rare easy chairs, designed by Erik Bertil Karlén and produced by Firma Rumsinteriör in Sweden during the 1940s, exemplify the refined craftsmanship and organic forms central to Scandinavian mid-century design. The frames are constructed from solid beech, offering a balance of sturdy construction and elegant proportions that convey both visual lightness and structural integrity. The legs and support stretchers are subtly tapered, contributing to the overall fluidity and harmonious silhouette of the chairs.

The chairs have been newly reupholstered in high-quality natural sheepskin, which provides a soft, tactile surface that complements the warm tones of the wood. The upholstery is detailed with button tufting using leather-covered buttons, adding a sophisticated textural contrast and a period-appropriate decorative touch. The gently curved backrest is designed for ergonomic support, while the deep, angled seat enhances comfort, encouraging a relaxed seating posture.

Erik Bertil Karlén was a noted Swedish designer whose work emphasized skilled craftsmanship, natural materials, and sculptural, yet functional forms. Firma Rumsinteriör, the manufacturing company, was known for producing finely handcrafted furniture reflecting the ideals of Swedish modernism during this era.

These chairs are preserved in excellent condition, featuring newly restored upholstery and well-maintained wooden frames. Each chair measures approximately 73 centimeters in width, 84 centimeters in depth, and 79 centimeters in height, with a seat height of 40 centimeters. In imperial units, these dimensions correspond to 28.7 by 33.1 by 31.1 inches, with a seat height of 15.7 inches.
