Erik Riisager Hansen vanity
This rare freestanding vanity table was designed by Erik Riisager Hansen and produced by Haslev Møbelsnedkeri in Denmark during the 1950s. Crafted from solid and veneered teak, the piece displays warm reddish-brown tones with a finely grained surface throughout. The design features a rectangular tabletop with a central lift-up section revealing an integrated mirror and a storage compartment below, intended for grooming essentials. A discreet side drawer, flush with the apron, balances the lift-top and maintains the table’s clean visual lines when closed.
The structure is supported by four solid teak legs, slightly tapered and joined with softened right-angle transitions to the tabletop, demonstrating meticulous woodworking craftsmanship. The joinery is especially refined, with rounded internal corners and seamless integration into the apron. Minimal ornamentation, integrated handles, and balanced proportions reflect the hallmarks of Danish mid-century cabinetmaking, emphasizing subtle detailing and quality materials.
Erik Riisager Hansen was a Danish furniture designer known for his restrained modernist style and collaborations with Haslev Møbelsnedkeri, a respected workshop noted for hand-crafted furniture and production of pieces by prominent designers during the mid-20th century. This vanity exemplifies Hansen’s thoughtful balance of utility and form, designed to meet both practical and aesthetic domestic needs.
The vanity remains in very good condition, with minor surface and joint wear appropriate to its age. The original mirror is intact and free of significant blemishes, and all mechanical functions operate smoothly.
