Finn Juhl bench

Information

Rare bench or side table model BO-101 designed by Finn Juhl and produced by Bovirke in Denmark in 1953. The piece reflects Juhl’s sculptural and highly refined approach to furniture design, where functional objects are treated with the same sensitivity to form and composition as his seating designs.

The rectangular top is executed in teak, displaying a warm, richly grained surface with subtle variations in tone. The edges are defined by a continuous brass band, fixed with visible screws, which both protects the perimeter and introduces a contrasting material element. A raised gallery along the back edge adds a subtle architectural detail while also serving a practical function.

Beneath the top, a gently curved, suspended teak shelf creates a floating effect and reinforces Juhl’s characteristic use of organic forms within a structured framework. The base consists of slender legs in gun metal, with the lower sections finished in teak, creating a refined transition between materials. The legs are connected by delicate metal stretchers, contributing to the lightness of the construction while ensuring stability.

The combination of teak, brass, and darkened metal results in a balanced interplay of warm and cool tones, emphasizing both craftsmanship and material quality. The proportions and detailing allow the piece to function equally well as a bench or a low table, adaptable to a variety of interior settings.

Dimensions: length 150 cm (59.1 inches), depth 45.5 cm (17.9 inches), height 41 cm (16.1 inches).

In good vintage condition with minor signs of use, including light wear consistent with age.
