Finn Juhl easy chair
This rare easy chair model Bwana with matching stool was designed by Finn Juhl and produced by France & Daverkosen in Denmark during the 1960s. The design reflects Juhl’s sculptural approach to furniture, characterized by organic forms, precise proportions, and the seamless interplay of wood and upholstery.
The frame is crafted in solid teak with warm reddish-brown tones, displaying rounded and tapering details that emphasize the natural grain of the wood. The chair and stool are upholstered in black leather, with the seat cushion recently reupholstered. The surfaces remain in good vintage condition, showing age-related wear and patina consistent with careful use, which enhances their authenticity.
Finn Juhl, one of the most important figures in Danish modern design, was instrumental in shaping the international reputation of Scandinavian furniture. His collaborations with France & Daverkosen, later known as France & Søn, played a key role in the global distribution of Danish modernism. The Bwana chair is a later design that demonstrates his continued commitment to comfort, craftsmanship, and sculptural expression.
This set belongs to the mid-century Scandinavian tradition, where natural materials and functional clarity were elevated through refined craftsmanship. The combination of teak and leather embodies the understated elegance that has made Danish design enduringly relevant.
