Floor lamp

This elegant Swedish floor lamp was produced by Falkenbergs Belysning during the 1960s. Its tall, slender construction combines richly figured rosewood with brass details and a circular brass base, creating a refined expression characteristic of Scandinavian lighting from the period. The restrained geometry of the frame is contrasted by the decorative textile shade, giving the lamp a distinctive balance between Scandinavian modernism and the more expressive textile designs of the 1960s.

Falkenbergs Belysning was a Swedish lighting manufacturer based in Falkenberg, producing a wide range of domestic lighting during the mid-20th century. The company worked with materials closely associated with Scandinavian Modern design, including brass, teak and rosewood, often combining them in elegantly proportioned floor and table lamps. This example retains the understated construction and material contrasts typical of Swedish lighting from the era.

The lamp stands on a broad circular brass base with a gently raised profile. From the center rises a long, rectangular rosewood column, displaying pronounced natural grain and warm reddish-brown tones. Brass fittings connect the wooden stem to a narrow upper rod, visually lightening the construction and giving the shade the appearance of floating above the wooden body. The combination of rosewood and aged brass creates a particularly warm material palette.

The original-style cylindrical shade is covered in a striking floral-patterned fabric in shades of green, turquoise, muted violet and cream. Its dense, sweeping botanical motif introduces an expressive graphic element to the otherwise minimal structure. A white plexiglass diffuser closes the upper part of the shade, softening the upward light and contributing to a warm, atmospheric illumination when the lamp is lit.

The underside carries a Swedish electrical approval mark, further supporting its Swedish manufacture. The lamp remains in good vintage condition with signs of age and use consistent with its period. The brass displays patina, oxidation and surface marks, while the rosewood shows minor wear. The fabric shade has visible age-related staining and discoloration.
