Folke Ohlsson easy chairs
This pair of easy chairs, model USA 75, was designed by Folke Ohlsson and produced by Dux in Sweden in 1963. The design reflects Ohlsson’s balanced fusion of American and Scandinavian influences, emphasizing clarity, comfort, and well-crafted form. The frames are constructed from solid teak with a pronounced grain, finished in a warm oil that enhances the natural color and figure of the wood.
The structural design features sharply tapering legs, gently curved armrests, and a sculptural slatted backrest composed of vertical dowels angled for ergonomic support. The distinctive backrest detail is a hallmark of this model and showcases the craftsmanship of Dux during the 1960s. The cushions have been newly reupholstered in high-quality grey felt fabric, maintaining the chair’s original character while offering updated comfort and durability. The fabric is precisely fitted, preserving the clean geometric profile of the original upholstery.
Folke Ohlsson (1919–2003) was a Swedish designer who emigrated to the United States and significantly contributed to popularizing Scandinavian modern design there. The USA 75 is part of a series of designs he created for Dux, which have become iconic for mid-century interiors, prized for their elegance, comfort, and versatility.
The chairs are in excellent condition with newly restored upholstery and well-preserved teak frames showing minimal wear.
Each chair measures 74 cm wide, 80 cm deep, and 75 cm high (approximately 29.1 by 31.5 by 29.5 inches), with a seat height of 40 cm (15.7 inches). This pair exemplifies Scandinavian design from the early 1960s, combining precision woodworking with a timeless aesthetic.
