Folke Ohlsson side table
This rare side table, model “Colorado” was designed by Folke Ohlsson and produced by Tingströms in Sweden during the 1960s. Crafted from richly grained rosewood, the table features a rectangular top with softly rounded corners and subtly raised edges. The surface displays pronounced linear and swirling grain patterns typical of rosewood, adding visual texture and depth.
The table’s four legs are gently tapered and integrated into the frame with a slight flare at the joint, enhancing both stability and refined aesthetics. The sculptural transition from apron to leg, characterized by a soft inward curve, exemplifies Ohlsson’s modern Scandinavian approach, balancing ergonomic considerations with organic lines.
Folke Ohlsson (1919–2003) was a Swedish-born designer who gained prominence after relocating to the United States, where he became known for merging Swedish craftsmanship with American industrial production. His designs are distinguished by clear forms and functional elegance, often utilizing high-quality materials in streamlined silhouettes. Ohlsson played a key role in promoting Scandinavian modernism internationally, notably through his association with DUX and collaborations with American manufacturers.
Tingströms, a mid-20th-century Swedish furniture company, produced the table and was recognized for its craftsmanship and attention to detail, especially in solid wood construction and fine joinery.
This table is in very good vintage condition, showing minor surface wear consistent with age and use. The rosewood maintains a deep, even tone with a naturally developed patina, and the structure remains fully intact.
The dimensions are 65 cm wide, 50 cm deep, and 51.5 cm high (approximately 25.6 by 19.7 by 20.3 inches).
