Fritz Hansen easy chair
This very rare easy chair, model 1669, was designed by Fritz Hansen and produced by the Danish manufacturer Fritz Hansen in 1938. Fritz Hansen is recognized for its high-quality craftsmanship and innovative contributions to Scandinavian Modern furniture design, playing a pivotal role throughout the mid-20th century. This chair embodies the company’s focus on creating furniture that balances functional comfort with enduring aesthetic appeal.
The chair is supported by gently angled beech wood legs, reflecting the simplicity and natural material emphasis characteristic of Scandinavian design. It has been recently reupholstered in a beige sheepskin, which provides a soft texture and enhances comfort, while natural leather buttons serve as complementary decorative details that underscore the piece’s refined construction.
The design features gently curved armrests and a generously sized seat paired with a slightly reclined backrest, optimized for ergonomic support and relaxation. This model, dating back to 1938, represents an early expression of Mid-century Modern style with its streamlined form, focus on natural materials, and prioritization of functionality over ornamentation. It marks a significant phase in Fritz Hansen’s evolution toward modernist furniture design.
The chair is in excellent restored condition, maintaining both its structural integrity and original design intent. Its dimensions are 80 cm in width, 80 cm in depth, and 72 cm in height, corresponding to approximately 31.5 inches wide, 31.5 inches deep, and 28.3 inches high.
