Gertrud Lönegren vase

This vase, titled “Florens” is a creation by Gertrud Lönegren, a notable ceramic artist who worked with the Swedish manufacturers Rörstrand. The vase is executed in stoneware, a durable and high-fired ceramic known for its robustness and slightly porous texture. The form is rounded and somewhat elongated, measuring 18.5 cm in height and 15.5 cm in diameter.

The surface of the vase features a distinctive relief decoration, arranged in a pattern of rectangular raised blocks that create a tactile, grid-like effect across the body. This texture adds depth and complexity to the design, engaging both sight and touch. The glaze applied is a rich yellow-brown tone with variegated shading, which enhances the relief pattern by emphasizing the contours and transitions between the raised sections. This glazing technique results in a warm, earthy palette that is characteristic of Scandinavian ceramics from the mid-20th century.

The base of the vase is marked with an impressed stamp that reads “Rörstrand Lönegren Sweden L166 Hand-turned” confirming its authenticity and indicating that it was hand-crafted. Rörstrand is one of Sweden’s oldest and most prestigious ceramic manufacturers, known for blending traditional craftsmanship with modern design. Gertrud Lönegren was part of this legacy, contributing to the company’s reputation for innovative and artistically significant ceramics.

The vase is in excellent condition, showing no signs of chips, cracks, or restoration.
