Greta Magnusson Grossman floor lamp
This rare model G-33 floor lamp, also known as the Grasshopper, was designed by Swedish-American designer Greta Magnusson Grossman and produced by Bergboms in Sweden during the 1950s. The lamp is a quintessential example of Grossman’s modernist design language, combining slender, sculptural forms with a functional minimalism that has made her lighting designs highly sought after in the mid-century period.
The lamp features a tripod base made from thin tubular steel, finished in matte black lacquer. The angled legs create a light and dynamic profile, supporting a central upward-bending arm that culminates in an articulated joint holding the shade. The shade is an elongated cone shape, lacquered black on the exterior and painted white inside to maximize light reflection. A brass swivel joint at the head allows for directional adjustment of the light, enhancing its functionality. The underside of the socket is marked “G-33 BERGBOMS MAX 25W” confirming its authenticity.
The lamp is in very good vintage condition, showing minor wear consistent with age on the lacquered surfaces and a light patina on the brass fitting, which adds to its character.
The dimensions are 37 centimeters (14.6 inches) in width, 50 centimeters (19.7 inches) in depth, and 124 centimeters (48.8 inches) in height. This floor lamp exemplifies the elegant synthesis of form and function that defines Greta Magnusson Grossman’s work and mid-century Scandinavian design.
