Greta Magnusson Grossman floor lamps
This rare pair of floor lamps, model G-33—known as “Grasshopper”—was designed by Greta Magnusson Grossman and produced by Bergboms in Sweden during the 1950s. These lamps showcase Grossman’s minimalist and functionalist vision, highlighted by their iconic angled silhouette, a hallmark of mid-century Scandinavian design.
Each lamp is crafted from black lacquered metal, featuring a slender, angular frame supported by a tripod base that balances stability with a lightweight, sculptural form. The elongated, conical shades have a black exterior with a white interior, enhancing light reflection for optimal illumination. Brass fittings at the pivot points allow for adjustable and directional lighting, blending elegant detailing with practical use.
Greta Magnusson Grossman, a Swedish-born designer and architect, was influential in popularizing Scandinavian modernism, especially through her work in California. Bergboms was a respected Swedish manufacturer known for combining quality craftsmanship with modernist design principles, making this pair a refined example of both.
The lamps remain in original vintage condition, with minor wear on the lacquer and a naturally developed patina on the brass fittings. Their full functionality is preserved, maintaining the authentic character of these iconic pieces.
