Gunnar Ander water pitcher
This water pitcher was designed by Gunnar Ander and produced by Ystad-Metall in Sweden during the 1950s. The piece reflects the refined Scandinavian modern aesthetic that characterized Ystad-Metall’s metalwork of the mid-century period, combining functional clarity with sculptural form. Ander, who designed extensively for the company, was known for his ability to integrate organic lines with a restrained modern sensibility.
The pitcher is made of copper with a cylindrical body and an elongated, curved spout that extends in a fluid motion from the lower section of the vessel. The handle is wrapped in woven cane, a tactile contrast to the polished metal surface and a detail typical of Scandinavian craftsmanship that adds warmth to the design. The angled opening at the top contributes to the pitcher’s sculptural quality while maintaining practical usability. The copper has developed an attractive natural patina over time, enhancing its depth of color and emphasizing its age and authenticity.
This example remains in good vintage condition with visible signs of age and use consistent with its period. The metal shows areas of oxidation and small surface marks, all contributing to its characteristic mid-century patina.
