Information

This pair of wall-mounted shelves was designed by Hans J. Wegner and produced by Ry Møbler in Denmark during the 1950s. Each shelf is crafted from solid oak with veneered components, finished in a warm, golden-brown tone that highlights the linear grain and tactile qualities of the wood. The design features a flat shelf surface supported by vertical partitions and side panels with gently curved upper corners, demonstrating Wegner’s meticulous attention to both structural clarity and sculptural detail.

The vertical dividers are arranged into three equal segments, creating a rhythmic and organized layout that facilitates practical separation of stored or displayed items. A horizontal back rail unifies the components visually and provides structural rigidity when mounted. The craftsmanship reflects Ry Møbler’s high standards of cabinetmaking, employing traditional joinery techniques and precise finishing.

Hans Wegner (1914–2007) is a seminal figure in Scandinavian modern design, celebrated for his extensive contributions to seating and cabinetry. Renowned for harmonizing functionality with organic form, Wegner produced many designs for Ry Møbler throughout the 1950s and 1960s, focusing on creating furniture suitable for complete domestic environments. These shelves exemplify his minimalist aesthetic, embodying a utilitarian yet refined approach typical of his storage furniture.

The shelves are in very good vintage condition, showing minor surface wear and slight tonal variations in the oak consistent with their age.

Each shelf measures 100 centimeters in width, 18.5 centimeters in depth, and 23.5 centimeters in height (approximately 39.4 x 7.3 x 9.3 inches).
