Harry Østergaard dining chairs
A rare set of twelve Danish dining chairs, model 61, designed by Harry Østergaard and produced by Randers Møbelfabrik in Denmark in 1961. With their elegantly reduced silhouettes and refined proportions, these chairs represent a highly collectible example of early 1960s Scandinavian design, combining craftsmanship, comfort and a distinctly architectural lightness.
The frames are made in richly grained rosewood with beautifully shaped legs and a softly curved back construction defined by the signature twin-rail backrest. The design offers a balanced mix of structure and openness, where the warm wood tones are complemented by the clean, horizontal lines and the subtle shaping of each component. The seats have been newly reupholstered in premium Italian leather in a warm cognac tone, adding a tactile softness and a timeless contrast to the darker rosewood.
Each chair measures 50 x 50 x 76 cm (19.7 x 19.7 x 29.9 in). The seat height is 45 cm (17.7 in).
The set is in good vintage condition with small signs of age and use consistent with careful handling over time. The rosewood surfaces show minor wear, while the newly upholstered leather seats present beautifully and elevate the overall impression of this rare, cohesive ensemble.
