Ib Kofod-Larsen coffee table
This rare coffee table was designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by Seffle Möbelfabrik in Sweden during the 1960s. The design combines geometric precision with luxurious materials, characteristic of Kofod-Larsen’s refined approach to Scandinavian modernism.
The table features a solid rosewood frame with rounded, tapering legs that flow seamlessly into the corners of the apron. Each leg joint is executed with exceptional precision, showcasing the Danish and Swedish craftsmanship for which the period is known. The dark wood displays rich grain variation and depth, providing a striking contrast to the stone top.
The tabletop is made of black anorthosite, a rare igneous stone with blue and gray crystalline inclusions that catch the light and produce a subtle iridescence. The surface is polished to a deep gloss, while the edges are lightly beveled to emphasize the material’s natural structure. The stone rests within a finely fitted rosewood frame, which provides both support and a visual boundary to the sleek top.
The piece reflects Ib Kofod-Larsen’s characteristic balance between organic warmth and modern geometry. Its understated elegance allows the material quality to define the aesthetic, making it equally suited for domestic and representative interiors of the mid-century era.
The table remains in excellent vintage condition with light signs of age and a gentle patina to the rosewood. The stone top is well-preserved and retains its original finish.
