Illum Wikkelsø easy chair
This very rare “Croissant” easy chair, designed by Illum Wikkelsø and produced by Holger Christiansen in Denmark during the 1950s, is a standout piece of mid-century Scandinavian modern design. The chair’s organic and curved form, inspired by the shape of a croissant, gives it a unique and visually striking appearance. Its gently rounded structure, with generously proportioned armrests and a softly curved back, offers both ergonomic comfort and aesthetic elegance, making it a perfect example of the Danish modernist approach to design.
The frame of the chair is supported by slender, tapered rosewood legs that end in delicately rounded feet, highlighting the refined craftsmanship characteristic of Danish furniture from this era. The rosewood, with its rich tonal quality, complements the chair’s overall design and adds a touch of warmth and sophistication. The chair has been upholstered in vibrant purple Kvadrat™ fabric, a premium Danish textile known for its durability and refined aesthetic. This fabric enhances the chair’s modernist appeal while providing a durable yet comfortable seating experience.
The chair remains in excellent condition, with its structural integrity intact and the upholstery free from noticeable wear or significant fading. These signs of careful preservation and handling over time further emphasize the chair’s quality and longevity.
The dimensions of the chair are 104 cm (40.9 inches) in width, 85 cm (33.5 inches) in depth, and 64 cm (25.2 inches) in height, with a seat height of 38 cm (15 inches). The chair’s size and proportions make it both a comfortable and striking piece for any space.
