Jacob Ängman boxes

The collection consists of two elongated oval boxes in different sizes and two smaller circular boxes. Each piece features a low, rounded body with finely engraved horizontal lines running around the exterior, introducing a subtle decorative rhythm to the otherwise smooth pewter surfaces.

The two elongated boxes are fitted with hinged lids and rectangular black Bakelite handles, while the circular boxes feature removable lids with cylindrical Bakelite knobs. The dark handles create a distinct contrast against the softly reflective metal, emphasizing the clean geometry and carefully considered proportions of each object.

The interiors reveal the construction of the boxes, with the circular examples displaying a warm metallic finish that contrasts with the cooler silver tones of the exterior. The pewter surfaces have developed a gentle patina over time, with minor scratches and signs of handling that reflect their age and use.

Each box bears the GAB Svenskt Tenn manufacturer’s mark on the underside, confirming its Swedish origin. The combination of traditional metalworking techniques and modern materials is characteristic of the transition toward functionalist design in the early twentieth century.

The set is in good vintage condition, with small signs of age and use consistent with its production period.
