Jan Lunde Knudsen desk
This very rare freestanding desk, model INFI, designed by Jan Lunde Knudsen and produced by Gunnar Sørlie in Norway during the 1960s, is a striking example of mid-century Scandinavian design that elegantly merges natural warmth with industrial modernity.
The desk showcases a large rectangular tabletop veneered in richly grained rosewood, exhibiting deep, warm hues and an organic pattern that contrasts beautifully with the sleek chromed steel frame. Its two T-shaped steel legs provide both stability and a visually open, airy structure.
Beneath the tabletop, two floating drawer units are seamlessly integrated into the design. Crafted from matching rosewood, the drawer fronts feature circular recessed pulls arranged symmetrically, preserving a minimalist and streamlined silhouette. These drawers offer practical storage without disrupting the clean lines of the piece.
Jan Lunde Knudsen’s design ethos is clearly reflected in the desk’s functional elegance, precise craftsmanship, and balanced proportions. Gunnar Sørlie’s production ensured high-quality execution, making this desk a rare and well-preserved example of Norwegian mid-century furniture design.
The desk measures 220 cm in width, 110 cm in depth, and 72 cm in height (86.6 x 43.3 x 28.3 inches). Its condition is consistent with age and use, showing minor wear on both wood and metal while maintaining the integrity and character of the original finish.
