Jo Hammerborg table lamp

This rare table lamp, model President, was designed by Jo Hammerborg and produced by Fog & Mørup in Denmark during the 1950s. It is a striking example of Scandinavian modernism, combining refined materials and precise craftsmanship in a functional, elegant design.

The lamp features a broad, slightly flared conical brass shade with a brushed finish on the exterior and a white-painted interior that enhances light reflection. The shade is punctuated by perforations near the top, which allow a soft diffusion of light and add decorative interest when illuminated.

The central column is a harmonious blend of solid teak and brass, with teak accents framing the sleek brass tube, creating a warm yet contemporary contrast. The lamp rests on a Y-shaped brass base with teak feet, providing stability and reinforcing the minimalist aesthetic.

Jo Hammerborg, head of design at Fog & Mørup from 1957 to 1980, was renowned for his modernist lighting designs featuring clean lines, quality materials, and innovative forms. His work has become highly collectible, symbolizing the golden era of Danish lighting design.
