Information

This pair of bar stools was designed by Johannes Andersen and produced by Brdr. Andersens Møbelfabrik A/S in Denmark in 1961. The stools are executed with a tall, slender structure that emphasizes verticality and lightness, while maintaining a stable and well-balanced construction. The design reflects Andersen’s characteristic approach to combining functional clarity with refined proportions and subtle sculptural detailing.

The frames are constructed in solid wood with a deep brown tone and visible grain, suggesting rosewood or a closely related hardwood commonly used by the manufacturer during this period. Each stool stands on four tapered legs connected by shaped stretchers that also function as footrests. The stretchers are gently curved and carefully integrated into the legs, contributing both structural rigidity and visual rhythm. The overall silhouette is narrow and elegant, suited for bar or counter-height seating.

The seats are upholstered in original black leather imitation, shaped with softly rounded edges and a slightly contoured surface. The upholstery provides a restrained contrast to the warm wooden frames and follows the geometry of the stools closely. The surface shows a subtle sheen and fine texture, consistent with high-quality synthetic upholstery from the early 1960s. The padding remains firm and supportive, with no visible deformation.

Johannes Andersen was a prominent Danish furniture designer known for his mastery of wood and his ability to create designs that balance organic form with precise craftsmanship. His work often features flowing lines, tapered elements, and an emphasis on material expression. Brdr. Andersens Møbelfabrik A/S was a long-established Danish manufacturer that collaborated closely with Andersen, producing many of his most recognized designs with a high level of craftsmanship and consistency.

The pair is in excellent vintage condition, with minor signs of use consistent with age. The wooden frames show light surface wear and small marks, while the seats remain clean and well preserved. Both stools are structurally sound and present a cohesive appearance as a matching pair.

The dimensions of each stool are approximately 37 cm in width, 32 cm in depth, and 76.5 cm in height, corresponding to about 14.6 inches wide, 12.6 inches deep, and 30.1 inches high.
