Information

This set comprises six dining chairs and two armchairs designed by Johannes Andersen and produced by Mogens Kold Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1960s. Executed in solid rosewood and reupholstered in light camel-colored alcantara, the chairs embody the refined materiality and flowing organic lines characteristic of Scandinavian modernism.

The frames are crafted from dark-toned rosewood with a pronounced linear grain and sculpted to a fluid, continuous form. The back legs extend upward in a subtle arc to form the rear posts of the seatbacks, transitioning seamlessly into the top rail, while the front legs are joined by curved side rails that support the seat. The transition points and joinery are executed with precision and visual softness, demonstrating a high level of craftsmanship typical of Danish cabinetmaking from the period. The armchairs follow the same form, incorporating gently curving armrests integrated into the frame structure, enhancing comfort without compromising the visual lightness of the design. The seats and backs are upholstered in alcantara, a durable and tactile synthetic textile that closely resembles suede. Its smooth matte surface complements the warm tone of the rosewood and offers a subtle contrast in texture.

Johannes Andersen (1903–1991) was a Danish architect and designer best known for his elegant and sculptural furniture designs, many of which were produced in the 1950s and 60s by leading Danish manufacturers. His work typically features balanced proportions, ergonomic sensitivity, and an emphasis on the natural beauty of wood.

Mogens Kold was an esteemed Danish manufacturer known for its collaborations with prominent designers and its commitment to fine woodworking. Pieces bearing the “Danish Furnituremakers’ Control” mark, as seen on this set, indicate adherence to the highest standards of Danish craftsmanship and quality assurance.

The chairs are in very good vintage condition with minimal wear, consistent with age. The frames have been carefully preserved, and the upholstery is clean and professionally restored.
