Jørgen Lund & Ole Larsen office chair
This very rare office chair, model 932, was designed by Jørgen Lund and Ole Larsen and produced by Bo-Ex in Denmark during the 1960s. It represents an important example of Scandinavian modernism applied to workplace furniture, where organic forms and functional design converge. The chair is distinguished by its molded shell construction and the use of durable, high-quality materials, reflecting the craftsmanship typical of Danish furniture production of that era.
The seat and backrest form a single sculptural unit upholstered in original brown aniline leather. This leather displays a warm patina and natural surface creasing that have developed over time, consistent with regular use and the material’s aging process. The chair’s shape includes generously curved armrests and an integrated lumbar support, emphasizing ergonomic principles through its fluid, continuous form. Additionally, a separate leather cushion in the same brown tone provides extra comfort and supports the chair’s functional design.
The base consists of a cast aluminum five-star frame equipped with casters, allowing for mobility and swivel functionality. The aluminum retains a raw industrial finish, with minor oxidation and surface wear visible, which correspond to both the chair’s age and the utilitarian aesthetic favored in mid-century office furniture. The chair’s low and wide stance contributes to a stable, grounded seating posture appropriate for extended use.
Jørgen Lund and Ole Larsen were noted for their combination of refined aesthetics and practicality in furniture design. Their collaboration with Bo-Ex, a respected Danish manufacturer known for producing quality office and contract furniture, resulted in pieces that balanced sculptural appeal with durable construction. Model 932 is characteristic of their approach, well-suited for executive or creative office settings in the mid-20th century.
The chair remains in good vintage condition, with all original components intact. The leather exhibits some discoloration, minor scuffs, and areas of surface wear but remains supple and structurally sound. The dimensions are 72 cm wide, 55 cm deep, and 75 cm high, with a seat height of 44 cm, approximately 28.3 inches wide, 21.7 inches deep, 29.5 inches high, and a seat height of 17.3 inches.
