Josef Frank attrib. mirror
This rectangular wall mirror, attributed to Josef Frank and produced in Sweden during the 1960s, features a refined brass frame with minimalist detailing, which is characteristic of mid-century Scandinavian modernist design. The frame is composed of slender, flat-profiled brass bars joined at mitred corners, creating a clean, geometric outline that emphasizes lightness and simplicity.
The brass has been treated with a brushed finish, giving the frame a subdued satin sheen rather than a reflective polish. This allows the mirror to seamlessly integrate into various interior styles, from richly furnished spaces to more restrained, modern environments. The frame has a shallow depth of just 2 cm, keeping the silhouette tight to the wall and enhancing the floating visual effect.
The design is stripped of ornamentation, in line with Josef Frank’s approach to modernism, which, while playful and eclectic in textiles and furniture, could also exhibit stark, functional elegance in structural elements like lighting and mirrors. Although documentation on this specific model is limited, the attribution to Frank is supported by the consistent material language and formal qualities that align with known works produced for Svenskt Tenn and other Swedish manufacturers during this period.
The mirror is in very good vintage condition, with only minor wear to the brass surface, including small marks and patina consistent with age and use. The glass is original, clean, and free from cracks or clouding.
The dimensions of the mirror are 53 cm wide, 2 cm deep, and 80.5 cm high (approximately 20.87 inches wide, 0.79 inches deep, and 31.69 inches high).
