Kaare Klint easy chair
This very rare wingback chair, model 6212, designed by Kaare Klint and produced by the renowned Danish cabinetmaker Rud. Rasmussen in 1941, stands as a significant example of Scandinavian furniture design that bridges traditional influences with modernist ideals. Drawing inspiration from classic English wingback chairs, Klint refined the proportions and construction to embody early Danish modernism’s principles of functionality, simplicity, and craftsmanship.
The frame is crafted from solid mahogany, which displays a rich depth and warmth, contributing both to the chair’s durability and its visual appeal. The upholstery is original, featuring a timeless checkered fabric in dark blue and beige, accented by white piping that subtly defines the contours of the seat and back cushions. These cushions maintain their original structure, underscoring the high quality of materials and construction typical of Klint’s work.
The chair’s design incorporates elegantly curved rear legs paired with straight front legs, connected by horizontal stretchers that enhance the stability and integrity of the frame. The high, enveloping backrest and gently sculpted armrests are carefully shaped to provide comfort and support, making the chair both a functional seating solution and a sculptural form.
First presented in 1942 at the National Museum’s “Danskt Konsthantverk” exhibition in Stockholm, this model 6212 is a historically important piece within Scandinavian design, representing Klint’s lasting influence on furniture aesthetics and craftsmanship.
