Information

The model 4396 “Mix” easy chairs, designed by Kaare Klint and Edvard Kindt-Larsen in 1937 and produced by Rud. Rasmussen cabinetmakers in Denmark, represent an outstanding example of early Danish modernist furniture. These chairs embody a seamless transition from classical craftsmanship to the modernist ideals that would come to define Scandinavian design, emphasizing timeless proportions, material integrity, and refined workmanship.

Constructed from solid mahogany, the frames feature the wood’s characteristic warm, reddish-brown hue and dense durability. The design is marked by gently curved armrests that flow organically into the structure, providing both ergonomic comfort and visual elegance. The legs are slightly tapered and reinforced with horizontal stretchers, offering stability while maintaining a light and graceful appearance. Upholstered in natural leather, the seats and backrests have developed a rich patina over time, adding depth and texture that underscore the chairs’ historical authenticity and quality.

Kaare Klint, often regarded as the father of Danish modernism, was celebrated for his meticulous focus on functionality, comfort, and craftsmanship. His collaboration with Edvard Kindt-Larsen on the “Mix” model resulted in a design that perfectly balances traditional furniture-making techniques with a modern, organic sensibility. The chair reflects Klint’s devotion to proportional harmony alongside Kindt-Larsen’s attention to material and form refinement.

Rud. Rasmussen, one of Denmark’s most prestigious cabinetmakers established in the late 19th century, played a key role in the evolution of Danish modern furniture. Known for producing pieces of uncompromising quality, often in close collaboration with leading architects and designers, the firm’s work continues to be highly regarded.

The chairs measure 66.5 cm in width, 82 cm in depth, and 77.5 cm in height (26.2 x 32.3 x 30.5 inches), with a seat height of 41 cm (16.1 inches), reflecting their balanced and enduring design.
